Judith and Holofernes

First half of the 18th century
Ca' Rezzonico, Venice, Italy

In Vulgate Judith 13:11 Judith takes the head of Holofernes and gives it to her maidservant, who then puts it in a sack. Here, however, the artist emphasizes Judith's agency by making her the one who disposes of the head.
